Prepare well for your outings on foot.

Avoid going alone, inform someone of your itinerary, choose your route according to your abilities, check the weather forecast, bring a map. Wear suitable shoes and clothing. Take enough water, some sunglasses, a sunhat and some sunscreen.

Code of good behaviour in the mountains

Respect the fauna and flora, do not feed animals, stay on marked trails without cutting off the bends, bring back your litter, respect regulations posted on site, leave fences and barriers in the position found, remain quiet and discreet, check the weather forecast, do not light fires.

Bivouacing is tolerated, but only near refuges and marked trails, and from sunset to sunrise.

Specific regulations

Large parts of the Conflent Canigó region are classified in some way as protected natural areas. There are Catalan nature reserves, the Canigó Grand Site, the Catalan Pyrenees regional natural park, and Natura 2000 areas. In addition to commonly applicable codes of conduct, certain of these territories have specific regulations.

In the Catalan nature reserves, dogs are prohibited, except in the Conat, Jujols and Nohèdes reserves where they are allowed if kept on a leash. Some dogs can run around and disturb wildlife and herds, and may even cause fatal accidents.

It is prohibited to collect: flowers, fruits, mushrooms, insects and fossils. Rare or common, each species is protected in its reserve and contributes to the biodiversity of the reserve.

It is prohibited to travel by motor vehicle in some areas in order to protect fauna, flora and walkers from pollution, noise and soil deterioration.

In the Canigó Grand Site and Natura 2000 areas, general regulations apply and dogs are allowed if kept on a leash.

Path waymarking

And if you encounter a problem ?

By using the Suricate app (in French), you can report and geolocate problems and incidents encountered during your outing, such as defective bridges, gates, etc, incorrect signage, a source of pollution, or a conflict between users of the land.
